The Itinerant Urbanist Has A New Book

The Perfect $100,000 House: A Trip Across America and Back in Pursuit of a Place to Call HomeKarrie Jacobs, of Metropolis and Dwell fame, has just released The Perfect $100,000 House: A Trip Across America and Back in Pursuit of a Place to Call Home.

Those of you that have known me long enough, know that I admire her ability to take complicated layered subject matter, and distill it down to its essence, or deconstruct situations that should be simple, but are no longer.

Metropolis has an interview, and Karrie has a list of articles that are available online. So go get acquainted if you’re unfamiliar with her work (it’s worth your time), and don’t forget to buy the book.

Little Peach Big Apple

During an annual purging a couple years ago, I came across an article that I saved from a previous purging of dead tree publications. It was written by Karrie Jacobs for the October 1993 issue of Metropolis Magazine.

The magazine has run several articles over the years about technology that were unusually insightful, but Little Peach Big Apple is my favorite. It captured something that was almost impossible to put into words at the time. Here is a 1MB PDF file of that article.
